week 8 A3- lesson plan

Objective: helping my students read basic cvc words with O, fluently They must first know and understand the short o sound (which they learned in kindergarten, so we are just reviewing it) We will be focusing on word recognition and fluency. This is my students first term of first grade. We will be reviewing and mastering the short O sound and decoding that sound in many cvc words. We will do so through reading the book called I can hop. (see attached document of book) Since my students are young and love to hop around, this story will perk up their interest, from seeing the rabbit hop all over the place. I applied the common core standards, in kindergarten they learned the basic cvc words and they should be reading text with purpose and understanding. In first grade they will be learning how to read with purpose and understanding on their grade level in addition to reading orally accurately and with expressions. By having my students read this book a few times, I a...

week 7 assignment 5

I assessed one of my students who is in the beginning of kindergarten and is 5 years old. Since she is just beginning to read, her fluency isn’t so high, so that I let be.                 When I assessed her for print awareness, she was able to hold a book the right way, she knew what the front cover and the back cover were, and she knew what direction she should read from. My student was also able to identify the letters of the alphabet, although she could not tell me what the title and author of the book were. For this I would suggest that the parent or teacher read to her; there is also an online source- see below- where she can play and practice to pick up the things she didn’t know before.                 When I pronounced a word to my...

week 5 A4

After listening to Mary read and retell the passage she read "whales and fish", I now know her strengths and what she needs help with. Mary read 195/ 198 words correctly, but she didn't read the words in phrases, rather she read it word by word and occasionally two or three word phrases. So although Mary read the words correctly and she scored 45.5 on her accuracy she is a 1 on the prosody scale and she needs help with that. After Mary finished reading and her teacher asked her to explain what she read, Mary was able to retell the main ideas in the story as well as the detail.

week 5 A3

Mary was given a list of words from level 3 word list- she did very poorly on it, placing her in the frustration level. The teacher will give Mary passages to read to help her be able to read the words from level 3.

week 5 A2

Mary passed level 1 and was given a word list from level 2 to see if she could do that too. The list that Mary was given didn't match the list in my book so I counted the amount of words she got correct. She got 16 out of 20, making her a instructional reader.

week 5 A1

Mary read a list of words from level 1, although the video wasn't so clear I came out that she got about 18 out of 20 correct-making her an independent reader of level 1, she now can go on to level 2.
