I learned many things from the videos we watched, but the most important one is that if you get your students motivated and eager to learn a new language their eagerness will give their mind wings and they will have an easier time learning it. It’s also important to have your students’ parents involved in the process, in one video the school helped parents who themselves didn’t know English learn how to help their children learn the English language. One of the parents said, “I learned that my child can read any book, even if it’s meant for younger kids. As long as he’s reading, he’s in a good place.” Before you begin to work with a student, aside from assessing their English knowledge, assess them for their knowledge in their native language. This will help you understand where the student is holding, it will tell you if he is at grade level in the other language.
