RTI changed the emphasis for the identification process, from giving help the student only once they fell behind to providing support and intervention for struggling students early on, as soon as a a2. The old method there were some problems with: 1.      Waiting for the student to fail before giving the student additional help. 2.      Even if there is no major discrepancy between their IQ and knowledge the student still needs the same intervention instruction. 3.      Didn’t take into consideration the other possible factors that can be making the child not learn how to read. In RTI they measure learners’ performances when given intervention. They do not measure based on learning disabilities rather the student response to interventions. The student’s goals are not measured based on their IQ rather based on the level of the other students on their grade level. The RTI Process: 1.    ...

  In the article I read about RTI it starts off with stating that being aggressive about kids learning is the key to their success. RTI is a program that helps lead teachers to teach their students how to read, aggressively. Although there is no program that is proven fool proof, with every program there are failures (less advantage schools there are more), but the better the program the more kids will know how to read. The job of schools is to make sure that all their students succeed, by having extra help when necessary and giving high quality instruction. RTI makes sure that classroom instruction is up to par, and if a student isn't doing well there are things to help. There are many different types of programs in RTI, all with slight differences. They all agree that teir 1 is the response provided to all students in the classroom and tier 2 is moving students into a highly targeted and supported special education program.
